AAPR Commends New Airline Passenger Protections
AAPR Executive Director Brandon M. Macsata appeared on NPR's All Things
Considered with Brian Naylor on August 23, 2011 to discuss the Department
of Transportation's (DOT) newly implemented airline passenger protections.
In the segment, "New Rules Aim for More Passenger-Friendly Skies,"
Macsata called for additional consumer protections, while also commenting
on how the new rules will impact those very unpopular baggage fees.

December 29, 2010 to discuss airline passenger rights. In the segment,
"Keeping Them Honest: What Went Wrong?," Macsata discussed the aftermath
of the excessive delays and system wide failure following the winter blizzards
that grounded thousands of flights and millions of passengers. He questioned
the airline industry's commitment to customer service, calling their planning
ill-prepared. He called for greater transparency and applauded the Department
of Transportation's tarmac delay regulation.

on December 29, 2010 to defend the Department of Transportation's (DOT) year-old
tarmac delay regulation, which went into effect in April and protects passengers
from excessive tarmac delays. In the segment, "Passenger Rights,"
Macsata discussed whether government intervention into air travel would
make for smoother flying. Airlines are fined $27,500 per passenger for flights
delayed longer than 3 hours on the tarmac.

FOX 5 News on November 15, 2010 to discuss the controversy over airport body
scans and pat-downs. In the segment, "Security vs. Privacy at the Airport,"
Macsata challenged the new security techniques, claiming that they violate
U.S. citizens' privacy rights protected under the Constitution's 4th Amendment,
as well as pose possible health risks. He called for the Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) to immediately discontinue their use and replace them
with more effective security screening techniques.
